Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 lb green beans fresh, trimmed
  • 0.33 cup water
  • 0.25 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp butter unsalted
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.33 cup Parmesan cheese finely grated
  • 0.125 tsp black pepper

Equipment

  • 1 12-inch skillet

Method

  1. Heat the olive oil in a 12-inch skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the green beans, water, and salt. Cover and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, until the beans are crisp-tender.
  3. Uncover and cook for 1 to 2 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the water has evaporated.
  4. Add the butter and garlic and cook, stirring, for 30 seconds, until fragrant.
  5. Remove the skillet from the heat. Add the Parmesan and black pepper, and toss until the beans are evenly coated.

Notes

For the best texture, cook just until the beans are crisp-tender. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for 3 to 4 days; freezing is not recommended because the beans may soften. For a dairy-free version, use dairy-free butter and a plant-based Parmesan alternative.
